Exploring Ancient Cyprus at the British Museum
On the 15th of February, members of NEPOMAK UK visited the British Museum for an exclusive insight into Ancient Cyprus and the wider Mediterranean. The informative event was organised by the Cultural Section of the Cyprus High Commission in collaboration with NEPOMAK UK.
Dr Thomas Kiely, Cyprus Curator in the Greek and Roman Department of the British Museum, led the enlightening tour, which began with opening remarks by Cultural Counsellor, Dr Marios Psaras, who highlighted the importance of history and archaeology as a guiding light into the present and future. Dr Kiely then took the floor providing a brief overview of the history of archaeology in Cyprus, as well as of the research and restoration work being conducted at the British Museum. He then guided the members of NEPOMAK UK to the ancient Cyprus antiquities not currently on display, giving them the opportunity to come into contact with a selection of these antiquities. The educational tour was followed by a Q&A discussion at the Greek and Roman Department Study Room, where everyone had the opportunity to network and explore the room, which was filled with archival material.
