Big Ben rang for the first time on the 31st of May 1859. It has since become one of the most famous attractions in London and it;s currently undergoing major reconstruction works that will last until 2021.
Big Ben was initially referred to the great bell but nowadays it describes the clock, the tower and the bell.
It was renamed Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II.
