Minimum wage in UK goes up by 4,9%
Today, 1st of April, the legal minimum wage in UK increases by 4,9% from £7.83 to £8.21 an hour for adults over 25 years old. The hourly rate for 21 to 24-year-olds will go up from £7.38 to £7.70 and for 18 to 20-year-olds from £5.90 to £6.15
This is the so-called "national living wage" which falls short of the "real living wage" which is an independently calculated pay rate and employers can adapt on a volunteer base. Currently, it stands at £9 an hour for the rest of the UK and at £10.55 for London.
