Hundreds of Black cab drivers blocked Tottenham Court Road on Friday afternoon in protest over plans to restrict daytime access to the busy street.
Under the plans by the local council, cars, lorries and taxis are soon going to be banned from Tottenham Court Road between 8am and 7pm, Monday to Saturday, when only buses and bikes will be allowed. The fine for drivers who breach the restrictions is set to £130.
According to Camden Council, the changes will improve air quality and road safety but the taxi industry expresses worries about the move that will come into effect from March.
