Members of the RMT Union (National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers) gathered outside King's Cross station on Wednesday morning, in order to oppose the increase in fares for trains.
On average, train commuters will have to pay 3.1% more in 2019. The rail industry says that the vast majority of revenue from fares goes to day-to-day costs of the network although punctuality is at a 13 year low.
According to an analysis by the Labour Party, fares have risen almost three times faster than wages since the Conservatives came to power in 2010.
On the other hand, Transport Secretary Chris Grayling insists that "record" government investment in the rail network would lead to more frequent, affordable and reliable journeys for UK commuters.
