Trafalgar Square is London’s most famous public square. It took its name back in 1830 and two years later work began on the National Gallery which is located right on top of the square.
In 1843 Nelson’s column was erected, designed by William Railton. In July 2003 a transformation project took place that saw the north terrace pedestrianised. A cafe, public toilets and a lift for disabled access were also created.
Nowadays Trafalgar Square is a very popular touristic spot, but at the same time is attracting huge numbers of Londoners.
